FREE Mini Christmas Sweater Pattern: Gift Tags and Ornaments

Last year for Christmas I made my family these teeny tiny little sweaters embroidered with the first letter of each person’s name on them. I added them to their gifts as gift tags and now they all use them as ornaments to hang on their trees, and now I have the free pattern ready for you to knit!

These are great because they are quick to make and you can use up your scrap yarn to make them. Make sure to check out my tutorial video at the bottom of this post to follow along and make this sweater with me, stitch by stitch!

Materials:

A sport or sock weight yarn (no less than 20g for the sweater)

A matching-weight yarn for the embroidery

Five size 2 double pointed needles

Two stitch holders (or scrap yarn for holding stitches)

Scissors

Tapestry needle

Row counter

Stitch marker

Measurements

(These will change depending on your yarn choice)

Width: 6″

Height: 3″

Abbreviations

CO— Cast on

K— knit

P—purl

KFB— knit front and back

K2TOG— knit two together

DPNs— double pointed needles

Rep— repeat

St(s)—stich(es)

BOR— beginning of round

EOR— end of round

BO—bind off/cast off

Instructions

The Body

CO 22 sts

Divide sts across 4 DPNs as follows: six on the 1st needle, five on the 2nd, six on the 3rd, five on the 4th

Rows 1-4: K1, P1, rep to EOR

Row 5: KFB in 1st and last st on each needle, knitting all other sts

Row 6: knit

Rep rows 5 & 6 (4) times (62 sts)

Row 15: place 15 sts onto a stitch holder or scrap yarn, K16, repeat once

Rows 16-24: knit

Rows 25-28: K1, P1, rep to EOR

BO

The Sleeves

Distribute sts from one stitch holder evenly across 3 DPNs

Mark new BOR

Rows 1-2: knit

Row 3: K2TOG, knit until last 2 sts, K2TOG

Row 4: knit

Repeat rows 3 & 4 (2) more times

Row 9: Knit

Rows 10-13: K1, P1, rep to EOR

BO

Repeat these instructions for final sleeve

Weave in all ends

Adding the embroidery

Add the letter using your chosen embroidery method. I personally like the duplicate stitch and have graph letters to fit this sweater you can use below. I have a tutorial in the video at the bottom of this post, as well as a separate one you can watch just below:
